Mayor of Ruapehu

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Ruapehu District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I have led and challenged council for change and I intend to lead that change throughout Ruapehu. I believe our community has been waiting for change but have been waiting far too long for someone to drive transformation change and I believe our communities are ready for it. I am prepared to do the hard yards to move us all forward. He Waka eke noa.

About me

I was born in Taumarunui in 1972 and went to Turaki School and Taumarunui High School. I am affiliated and whakapapa to most hapū and iwi in the Ruapehu area and truly am from the mountains to the sea! I have spent my working life in either business or in the community arena and have dedicated many hours to voluntary causes. I am passionate about arts, sports, helping all people and my marae.

My priorities
  1. The most important thing we can do is to protect and restore our natural habitats and ecosystems.
  2. Build and maintain strong and healthy relationships with local community boards and tangatawhenua.
  3. Drive prosperity and positivity throughout our region to ensure growth in every corner of Ruapehu.
