Saddle Hill Community Board

The Saddle Hill Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Climate change and resilience

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

  • Advocate for action to preserve Ocean View dunes and protect Brighton/Taieri Mouth Road.

    Support provision of safe cycleways and walkways with e-bike charging station in Brighton, Green Island and Mosgiel for local access.

    Ensure homeowners aware of fire risks (eg kanuka stands on Chain Hills and Saddle Hill) and protective actions available.

  • Educate people on how to recycle correctly thus making our current recycling plan more efficient, ie correct "numbers" in the recycling bin.

    Actively create relationships with our local farmers to hear their needs and identify how we can have a successful relationship.

    Actively remain connected with the local community to support Ocean View Beach restoration and prevent further beach erosion.

  • Lobby the Dunedin City Council to monitor the coastal erosion, and protect vulnerable areas such as the Brighton Rugby Ground and Ocean View Beach.

    Continue opposing the Smooth Hill Rubbish Dump which will destroy wetlands and make Otokia Creek and Brighton Beach vulnerable to pollution.

    Assist with local coastal protection groups.
