Saddle Hill Community Board

The Saddle Hill Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Prevent the Brighton dump/Smooth Hill Landfill as it threatens Otokia Creek which runs into Brighton Bay and will destroy wetlands.

    Establish a "free market" where unwanted goods can be given to others – not taken to the tip.

  • Keep our utilities, like the water, decentralised and utilise local companies and experts to develop and maintain them.

    Provide opportunities for the community to learn how to recycle and reuse responsibly such as correct items in bins.

    Provide opportunities for the community to learn how to reduce waste, such as food packaging waste.
