Why I'm standing

I am an open-minded evidence based decision-maker and I bring a level of scientific knowledge that will enhance effective allocation of funds and achievement of social and environmental goals. I believe councils will be required to monitor a huge range of environmental parameters to meet the requirements of new environmental legislation. I wish to ensure that this science is interpreted without bias, communicated effectively and used to inform future actions.

About me

I have lived in Tapawera for forty years. I have taught, predominantly science, at the local school for nearly thirty years. I now relief teach and work with my partner and his father on a beef fattening and cropping unit. I have been involved with a range of community groups and activities over the years and believe that communities are built by physically working together to achieve common goals.

My priorities
  1. Increasing the number of councillors for Lakes-Murchison Ward to two. Richmond goes down to three.
  2. Building community resilience to extreme weather events and the consequences of climate change.
  3. Sustainable use of productive land and the protection of the natural environment.
