Moutere-Waimea Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Moutere-Waimea ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Support initiatives where the efforts of volunteers can be leveraged to protect biodiversity, particularly for tree planting.

    Support having a biosecurity strategy and action plans in place.

  • Evaluate the current waste management and minimisation programs.

  • Introduce public and private partnerships, the Emissions Trading Scheme provides a financial incentive to all sectors to improve environmental outcomes.

    Review waste management, explore energy generation from green and human waste, recycle waste compost and elements of value.

    Out-source expertise from green organisations for greening projects and professional contractors for pest control and monitoring.

  • Ensure council guides regional development in logical directions that can be sustained over time, encouraging recreational pest management.

    Protect fertile land to ensure capacity to supply local populations and provide employment through exports, continuing waterway protection.

  • Ensure the Tasman District Council works with stakeholders to implement the Tasman Biodiversity Strategy 2022.

    Ensure Tasman District Council continues to effectively assess, manage and remediate environmental risks.
