Tawa Community Board

The Tawa Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Wellington City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members: six members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Wellington City Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Advocate for upgrading of our park and community facilities to be more accessible for children and young people.

    Support community-led place-making events – such as play-streets.

  • Encouraging more diverse festivals in Tawa such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, and Sri Lanka Poson festival.

    Improve the facilities at the dog park such as seating, water taps, and lighting.

    Develop more dog-friendly areas.

  • Advocate to council for the improvement and expansion of services at Tawa Library, Tawa Community Centre, and Linden Community Centre.

    Push council to explore new options for bringing Tawa Pool back to full opening hours.

    Continue supporting local community events like Spring Into Tawa.

  • Have all weather playing and training sports facilities particularly for football and rugby.

    Redevelop the Tawa skateboard park.

    Add more playground facilities at the Linden playground.

  • Assist strengthening community bonds (churches, marae, clubs) to reduce barriers to entry, encouraging creation of cultural community events.

    Revitalise the concept of equality of opportunity of all races, ethnicities and cultures in organisations in the community's jurisdiction.

    Facilitate in conjunction with sports associations and clubs, unique, thoughtful progression pathways to retain and develop promising people.

  • Ensure that the Grenada North Sports Hub gets underway as planned in the 2021 Long Term Plan.

    Support Spring into Tawa as a very much loved community event in the local calendar.
