Te Awahou Foxton Community Board

The Te Awahou Foxton Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Horowhenua District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: five members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Horowhenua District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Te Awahou Foxton Community Board election.

Why I'm standing

I am a firm believer that your community is better the more you contribute. Therefore I am keen to contribute my time and energy in seeing that Foxton and the Beach residents' views are heard. I also believe increased communication on how decisions are made – before and after can ensure communities and local governments are in relative agreement on actions going forward.

About me

I have over 30 years experience in governance and decision making in not-for-profit and community organisations. I began in the late 1980's helping set up a Community House in Petone, moving through Playcentre Aotearoa levels of training and governance to be an adult and child educator as well as Central Districts Playcentre Association President for four years alongside many other community efforts.

My priorities
  1. Get Community Board responsibility and control of Foxton Beach Feeholding Account decision making.
  2. Lobby for Foxton Beach flood protection raising current sea wall to same protection farmers have.
  3. Increase communication and public consultation to local voices are held and listened to.
