The Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of eight members: seven members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and one councillor from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Public transport with more bike racks.

    Better and safer footpaths and cycle lanes where suitable.

    Electric vehicle chargers around the bays to support electric vehicles.

  • Strongly support all transport policies to reduce emissions, including improving public transport and enabling more walking and cycling.

    Introduce a comprehensive parking policy (particularly within the four avenues) that is based on demand pricing.

    Reverse plans to develop an international airport at Tarras.

  • Push for road repairs in the areas of Lyttelton and our bays that have been missing out.

    Work with the community and Environment Canterbury to get better public transport solutions that suit our communities and are good for our environment.

    Make it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to get through the tunnel.

  • Work with the council to support the introduction of light rail connecting through out the city for the harbour to the airport etc.

    Work with council to repair our roads that are leaking. They were unsatisfactory before we had the earthquakes, now they are worse.

    Work with council to market our fabulous public transport, readdress their bus timetable.
