Vincent Community Board

The Vincent Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Central Otago District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Ensure sufficient land is available for housing through zoning land as residential.

    Permit small sections and subdivision of existing sections to reduce the price of land.

    Encourage the building of 'tiny' houses (one or two bedrooms).

  • Commit the community board to engage with commercial construction entities to identify barriers to compliant and sustainable development and mitigate them.

    Consider active role in housing development only after every avenue to support commercial activities has been exhausted.

    Seek out compliance areas that add to the cost of construction but add no value to the construction of quality affordable housing.
