Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board

Papanui Subdivision
The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. There will be no election this year because there are the same number of candidates as there are positions. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board election.

Local democracy

Local government is a foundational part of our democracy. But local democracy isn’t just about holding elections every three years – it’s about the day-to-day ways people have their say in the decisions that affect us all.

Find new and better ways to engage with and involve our communities in council and community board decisions.

Get more local decisions made at the community board level rather than at council, as we know our local community and their needs best.

  • Continue mentoring young people within the ward who would like to explore local government and civic leadership.

Further increase community board communication and engagement with the local community, building on my experience running Think Papanui.

Hold board meetings and public participation events in suitable accessible community locations. Briefings to be public wherever possible.
