Mayor of Wairoa

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I know the council is not delivering on core functions and the people of Wairoa have lost confidence in the council. I believe I have the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to lead the council as mayor of Wairoa.

About me

I have dedicated my life to being a champion for Wairoa. I care deeply for the people of Wairoa and I am someone who can represent the interests of others from all walks of life. My previous nine years' experience as a councillor and my passion for the place and the people holds me in good stead to be the mayor that Wairoa deserves and expects.

My priorities
  1. Initiate a detailed review of spending to ensure that every ratepayer dollar is justified.
  2. Investigate the need for a retirement village in Wairoa to free up homes for families.
  3. Establish a sustainable waste management plan that reduces landfill waste.
