Mayor of Wairoa

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

Our council has become a secret cult with people alienated and decisions made behind closed doors. Council is no longer accountable to the ratepayers. I want to re-engage the community to restore trust and confidence in council decision making processes and fully participate.

About me

I am a career civil servant in local government with 30 years of service. I am qualified in agriculture and environmental management: skills needed to make robust decisions on resource allocation.

My priorities
  1. Restructure senior management from four to two group managers.
  2. Bring all council departments under one roof.
  3. Review expenditure on legal services, consultancy and publicity costs.
