The Waitaki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Oamaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Initiate discussion on a scheduled connector bus service that links the North-end, hospital, public gardens, Weston and Oamaru CBD.

  • Safe cycle routes for our children to bike to school.

    Encourage the coordination of work programmes in order to gain efficiencies through reducing the number of times pavement is disturbed.

    Attend to finding access solutions for driving from side streets onto the main North End thoroughfare at peak traffic times.

  • Initiate an eight-week trial of public transport within Oamaru and surrounds.

  • Support the facilitation and opportunity for public transport.

    Work with central government to provide quality infrastructure for families and community to thrive.

  • Lobby Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for more funding to maintain local roads to a good standard.

    Incentivise the use of shared transport and develop better infrastructure to encourage the use of active transport to reduce emissions.

    Promote all of the amazing existing walking and cycling tracks around the district to encourage more community use.

  • Commit to increased road quality.

  • Work with Waka Kotahi to ensure our key roading links are fit for purpose to reduce the likelihood of isolation from extreme weather events.

    Utilize the A2O branding to encourage more use of cycling, developing "safe zones" along school routes and extend our cycle pathways.

    Investigate with local operators, the viability of a shuttle bus service between the South Hill, CBD and North End.

  • Explore solutions for better dog and horse access to many of the public walk and cycleways with possible restrictions and limitations.

    Collaborate and familiarise myself with relevant available research and policy recommendations for informed, evidence-based decision making.

    On basis it is commensurate with needs of our town, explore public transport options similar to the Timaru model.

  • Ensure that the public have access to affordable and reliable public transport.

    Work with current contractors to ensure the quality of our infrastructure is improved.
