Waitaki District Council

Oamaru Ward
The Waitaki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Oamaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I think we have tremendous opportunities ahead of us, but also many challenges. Covid has disrupted our "normal" and changed the way we live, work, spend, travel and on occasion interact with each other. We need to find creative solutions to issues we didn't realise were issues pre-Covid. Our people are our greatest asset, and we need strong voices to ensure everyone benefits from living in this wonderful district.

About me

I was born in Oamaru, lived and worked overseas and returned home, so I have local and international "life experience". I'm a Dad of two teenagers, business owner and employer, registered electrician, was Vice President of the Waitaki Chamber of Commerce, former North Otago Club committee member, was President of Oamaru Operatic/Musical Theatre Oamaru, and am a member of the Radio Broadcasters Association council. I work well with people and get things done.

My priorities
  1. Work to ensure the Sports and Events Centre is built and fit for purpose, not built to a budget.
  2. Support for economic development role but want to see real measures of success and costs controlled.
  3. Establishing a credible Waitaki Brand to attract people and investment to drive our region forwards.
