Waitomo District Council

Waitomo Rural Ward
The Waitomo District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of six councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Waitomo Rural ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

My main concern is addressing the growing current negative trend towards Maaori based on a range of topics. This is starting to split our communities apart. Collectively as a community we can overcome this by determining what is factual and discarding the fiction. My second goal is to strengthen the relationship between council and our diverse coastal/rural communities through engagement, clear communication and future focused solutions.

About me

If elected to council, this will allow me to share a wide range of practical, leadership and communication skills acquired over the past 30 years of working within the Meat Processing Industry with the majority of the time in managerial roles. I am also a current Trustee for the Mandated Iwi Authority, The Maniapoto Maaori Trust Board, and a trustee of the Ngaati Maniapoto Marae Pact Trust, which is a community based organisation.
