The Western Bay of Plenty District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Katikati-Waihi Beach ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Encourage economic development through facilitating clusters within the area and build on local competencies.

    Work with industry and education providers to build skills for the future – Industry 4.0 and Hort 4.0.

    Migrate industrial areas to innovative technology areas that build on current skills as well as innovate.

  • Support and progress the Rangiuru Business Park to provide for economic growth and opportunities.

    Work with groups such as Priority One and Tourism Bay of Plenty to support local industries and economic opportunities.

  • Not to hinder but to encourage new industry or employers to establish sustainable businesses.

    Establish stronger support for and bring together agencies that work with people that want/need work.

    Open to tourism development. It has been a provider of work and income to our community. Teach the rich history/customs of tangata whenua.

  • Promote more light industry in the district to bring jobs home and reduce need for commuting to Tauranga.

    Push for road tunnel through Kaimai Ranges to allow more efficient access to port and region and minimise impact on Karangahake Gorge/State Highway 29.

    Ensure current business promotion rates are truly used for business promotion and not diverted to other uses.

  • Do whatever it takes to remove the chokehold of heavy and through traffic from Katikati town centre, to enable economic revival.

    Ensure that council policies encourage businesses and industries to locate within the district, to maximise employment opportunities.

    Pursue new employment opportunities arising from the changing climate, including new industries, to support economic growth in the district.
