  • Work with immediate council's to have our sporting teams notably develop in the bay.

Attract community events like festivals to the bay.

Maintain all public facilities like parks, pools, museums, libraries and community halls and upgrade where necessary.

  • Continue current policy of progressively upgrading libraries and service centres and swimming pools across the district.

Explore opportunities for future events such as the recent Matariki event held in Te Puke.

Maintain firm control over the number liquor outlets in our communities in an effort to mimimise the harm caused by alcohol.

  • Replace Te Puke Memorial Pool with new fit-for-purpose facility when current pool at the high school is decommissioned by the Ministry of Education in 2026.

Support ongoing provision, development and maintenance of recreation reserves, sports grounds, cycleways etc., for our growing population.

Maintain a watching brief on liquor outlets, especially bottle stores to restrict access and alcohol promotion to at-risk residents, eg youth.

  • Reduce liquor licensing in our district and introduce stricter controls around off license selling.

Develop a policy around kava drinking in public spaces. Stricter compliances and regulations on the sale of kava.

Developing better uses of our green spaces and facilities. Provide better facilities for freedom campers and seasonal workers.

  • Continue to manage facilities practically with planned upkeep programs and input from communities whom they affect.

Encourage and welcome festivals to showcase the Western Bay of Plenty. Help grow the region's profile.

I believe current liquor licensing to be fair.
