Mayor of Westland District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Westland District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I feel there is a need for change around the council table as recently there has been a lack of direction at the top resulting in poor performance and ad hoc decisions. We cannot keep doing the same things and expect to get different results. Westland is a great place to live, work and play but it also needs to be affordable. We need a better plan that's within our budget.

About me

Born and raised in Ross, Westland is the place I call home. I'm passionate about giving back to the community and I have been involved in the volunteer fire brigade for nearly 25 years. I have proven success in business, and bring both governance and management experience to the table. I don't let costs runaway in my business and I feel this shouldn't be any different in council.

My priorities
  1. Create a new strategy for better outcomes for Westland and that are within our budget constraints.
  2. Create an open council that communicates well with the people in the community.
  3. Put a business lens across the 'business as usual' aspects of the council.
