Auckland Central electorate

Auckland Central covers the Auckland city centre, inner western suburbs and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The electorate is currently held by the Green's Chlöe Swarbrick, who won by a narrow margin of 1,068 – one of the smallest margins in the country. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Auckland Central – 46% to National's 21%. Labour held the seat for all but three years between 1919 and 2008.

Why I'm standing

Power to the people. In my maiden speech I said if I can achieve one thing in my time in parliament, it's people's understanding of what politics is. It's not politicians in suits yelling at each other. It's about power, resources and the decisions which saturate our daily lives. I have spent the last six years organising with our community for climate, social, environmental and economic justice and we are winning ground.

About me

I love this city with everything I am. Auckland Central gave me a place to stand, a community and purpose. I got into politics because I knew I couldn't just complain about things – I wanted us to rally and fix them. These last 3 years, we've chalked up wins with the St James, saved the White Lady food truck, reinstated urban tree protection and so much more. That work must continue.

My priorities
  1. Pass my Rental Warrant of Fitness Bill – Auckland Central has the largest population of renters by electorate.
  2. Continue building community, belonging, and safety – with body corps, business associations, services.
  3. Climate mitigation and adaptation – nature based solutions, density done well, quality mass transit.
