Auckland Central electorate

Auckland Central covers the Auckland city centre, inner western suburbs and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The electorate is currently held by the Green's Chlöe Swarbrick, who won by a narrow margin of 1,068 – one of the smallest margins in the country. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Auckland Central – 46% to National's 21%. Labour held the seat for all but three years between 1919 and 2008.

Why I'm standing

Auckland Central has a young, diverse population and a range of specific local issues like safety, noise, public transport, and environmental protection. I want to be a strong voice inside a Labour Government, advocating directly to our country's leaders on these local issues. As a young person myself, I know that we also need a strong progressive voice on the big challenges like the cost of living, renting, and climate change.

About me

I have been involved in advocacy for local Auckland Central issues as Secretary and Treasurer of the City Centre Residents' Group and as the spokesperson for a housing policy organisation. I've lived in both the City Centre and Ponsonby, and I have close family links to Waiheke. I also have technology sector experience, which is unusual in politics, and important given the challenges and opportunities we face with AI and other emerging technologies.

My priorities
  1. Improve the safety of the city centre with better resourcing for policing and community safety.
  2. Protect the rights of renters and build more affordable housing.
  3. Improve the reliability and affordability of public transport, including the Waiheke Ferry services.
