Northland electorate

Northland is currently held by Labour's Willow-Jean Prime, who won by a narrow margin of 163 – one of the smallest margins in the country. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Northland – 44% to National's 27%. Since the seat was established in 1996, it has been mainly held by National MPs, except for 2015 to 2017 when Winston Peters won the seat at a by-election, and 2020 when Labour won.

Why I'm standing

I love Northland! I grew up here, it is my home. It is an honour to be the MP for Northland and I am optimistic about our children's and Northland's future. I believe the Labour government has delivered massive, long-overdue investment that Northland has needed in health, education, employment and more. There is more to do and I that is why I am committed to building on our progress.

About me

Northland gave me a great childhood, and I want to make sure there is a thriving future in Northland for our families. That's why I became an MP. I am local, active and involved. I have the skills and experience to do the job. I have a background in law, advocacy, Māori and community development, and local government. I have six years experience as an MP and I am currently a Minister in Government.

My priorities
  1. Advocate for more investment in our core infrastructure like hospitals, schools and roads.
  2. Advocate for better health services and outcomes, particularly for women's and rural health.
  3. Advocate for our environment, conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
