Upper Harbour electorate

Upper Harbour covers the upper reaches of the Waitematā Harbour on both sides of the Upper Harbour Bridge, including Glenfield, Hobsonville, West Harbour and Massey. The seat is currently held by Labour's Vanushi Walters, who won comfortably with a margin of 2,392. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Upper Harbour – 48% to National's 31%. Population growth in Auckland required the Waitakere electorate to be split into Upper Harbour and Kelston ahead of the 2014 election. Upper Harbour was held by former National deputy leader Paula Bennett until it was won by Labour in 2020.

Why I'm standing

I want Upper Harbour to have a strong voice in government, and to ensure that decisions taken at a national level work locally. I've been focused on talking to community members about the issues that matter to them and ensuring that community voices are heard in parliament this term. It would be a privilege to continue to advocate on both individual and broader policy issues on behalf of Upper Harbour community members.

About me

I'm focused on the issues that matter to the people of Upper Harbour. Since being elected in 2020, I've made it a priority to establish a connected and responsive electorate office. Ensuring our schools are well supported, addressing cost of living issues and community safety issues have been a priority. In parliament, as chair of the Justice Select Committee, working for effective justice policy has been a focus including putting more police in our community.

My priorities
  1. Advocate for the continuation of policies that address the cost of living, like free dental care.
  2. Support programmes that break the cycle of offending and law that combats organised crime.
  3. Advocate for policies that support our children to thrive in school. Support our school leaders.
