Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Maintain focus on water services with a view to future proofing, exploring potable and non-potable water to properties.
Review current contracts for parks and recreation to determine if it is cost effective to bring services in house again.
Review current rubbish and recycling to ensure best value for money and avoid having multiple bins simply for appearances.
Believe that when water is well dealt with we can have a breather and enjoy the results.
Ensure traditional leisure pursuits, like gardening, remain affordable.
Work towards waste minimisation over time.
