Cromwell Ward
The Central Otago District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Cromwell ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

    Work with central government to reduce congestion by reviewing current traffic management controls to eliminate meaningless coned areas and reduce costs.

  • Connect cycle trails and create different experiences for both short and long-term stays in our valley.

    Ensure achievement of critical mass before investing in public transport.

    Try to retain some rural environments as urbanisation creeps up on us.
