Mayor of Christchurch

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Christchurch City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I want to lead our city through the transition from rebuild to resilience as we plan a better future for generations to come. Our city is starting to thrive off the back of many future-focused, progressive decisions, but that is at risk with short-term, political thinking. We need strategic, thoughtful leadership that can help us navigate changes in government policy and focus on what's right, not who's right when we make decisions.

About me

I have a useful mix of community and governance experience and a collaborative approach to leadership. From my volunteer roles after the earthquakes to serving on the Community Board and then Council for 12 years, and five years on the board of Christchurch City Holdings Ltd – these are a valuable foundation for leading the city. I have the skills, the vision and the energy to be the mayor we need for our future.

My priorities
  1. Prepare for the challenges and opportunities that climate change will bring.
  2. Enable communities to thrive and look after the most vulnerable.
  3. Look after core infrastructure to ensure it is fit for purpose and lowers costs over time.
