The Greater Wellington Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Porirua-Tawa constituency. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Ensure transparent public reporting and independent enforcement of environmental rules with real consequences for non-compliance.

    Expand predator control zones, establish a seasonal pest blitz campaign, support community-led trapping and protect wetland biodiversity.

    Prevent pollution at the source by upgrading wastewater infrastructure and enforcing stronger discharge rules.

  • Ensure GWRC has effective policies that reduce waste on an annual basis.

    Ensure the issuing of resource consents meets appropriate environmental standards and ensure effective monitoring of compliance.

    Increase share of total budget on environmental protection and improving biodiversity including predator and pest eradication.

  • Encourage composting and convert organic waste into clean energy and natural fertiliser.

    Launch a GWRC-led audit of plastic waste handling and public communication across the region.

    Stop the use of glyphosate in public spaces to protect wildlife and ecosystems.

  • Continue to support Predator Free Wellington in its pest eradication programmes.

    Increase the amount of planting across the regional council's landholdings to support greater biodiversity across the region.
