Grey District Council

Central Ward
The Grey District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Central ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Push to remove Taylorville Resource Park and require owners to fully restore the site to protect the environment and community health.

    Re-establish a joint waste committee to cut emissions, lower disposal costs and shift the West Coast towards a more circular economy.

    Secure central government funding to support local programmes raising awareness around conservation, climate change and sustainable living.

  • Commit to council doing all it can to protect the Coal Creek water supply from potential contamination risk now and generationally.

    Continue waste minimisation programme to reduce the amount going to landfill to extend the life of current cell saving ratepayer dollars.

  • Continue with the Grey District's infrastructure plan around three waters.

    Support efforts for waste minimisation including the need for whole of life product legislation from central government.
