Grey District Council

Central Ward
The Grey District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Central ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Investigate opportunities to introduce some form of public transport across the district to improve accessibility for everyone.

    Maintain roading networks in towns and rural areas to ensure safe access while considering the impact on roads from mining industry growth.

    Provide leadership growing safe walking and cycling options for the community including investment in footpaths, trails and offroad commuting.

  • Call on the West Coast Regional Council to increase investment and action to improve public transport services across the region.

    Collaborate with all West Coast councils to establish a reliable public transport service linking Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika.

    Increase funding and focus on maintaining safe, accessible roads and footpaths to improve travel safety for all users.
