Horizons Regional Council

Horowhenua General Constituency
The Horizons Regional Council is the regional council for the Manawatū-Whanganui region. It makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Horowhenua constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Design public transport that is accessible for all, especially youth, older adults and people with vision, hearing or mobility impairments.

    Ensure public transport delivers multiple benefits such as road safety, economic growth, education, better health and wellbeing benefits.

    Make public transport safer and easier to use by providing good lighting, good security and toilets at primary bus and train stations.

  • Develop public transport linking all areas in the region including a coastal 'beach hopper' linking with rail services.

    Investigate the efficiency of maritime transport tied with rail and road transport from coastal regions and ports.

    Work closely with Waka Kotahi on planning of infrastructure and bridges, minimising isolation.
