Kaipara District Council

Otamatea Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). two councillors will be elected from the Otamatea ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Get out of the way of business when that is the best thing a council can do.

    Make sure infrastructure controlled by council is fit for purpose and work towards fully funding depreciation on all council assets.

  • Invest in critical infrastructure including roads and water systems to support business operations and community resilience.

    Promote youth employment through partnerships with schools, trades and employers to create apprenticeships and work experience programmes.

    Upgrade digital infrastructure and connectivity to enable remote work, online business and access to education and services.

  • Continue to fund and develop cycleways in the Kaipara.

    Promote Kaipara as a place to visit.
