Otamatea Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). two councillors will be elected from the Otamatea ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Ensure contractors follow industry best practice guidelines, eg roading, to minimise environmental effects.

    Ensure council meets all its regulatory requirements for sewerage scheme discharges as a minimum.

    Support Sustainable Kaipara in its work.

  • Create wildlife corridors and habitat sanctuaries to support native species migration under climate change.

    Protect freshwater ecosystems by improving water quality monitoring and supporting riparian planting across catchments.

    Require construction and demolition projects to submit waste minimisation plans as part of the consenting process.
