Why I'm standing

Kapiti is home, my tūrangawaewae. I am an uri, descendant of Matahourua, Kurahaupō and Tainui waka. My whakapapa to the Kapiti Coast is uninterrupted, woven and embedded into the history, whenua and names of places across the Kapiti Coast District. I'm standing to ensure that we who are the ahi kā hapū and iwi of Kapiti can afford to live and remain here. Kapiti is our kāinga, our home for generations.

About me

As an active, connected member of my marae, hapū, iwi and community, who has integrity and cares, with tested governance, leadership and financial experience, this opportunity presented itself to utilise my pūkenga and mātauranga and aroha for our people. With my knowledge of council, I can hit the ground running and be effective as Māori ward councillor from day one, enabling kaupapa of shared priority to council and mana whenua, and supporting mātāwaka aspirations too.

My priorities
  1. Engage mana whenua to confirm their priorities and develop tikanga to advocate for mātāwaka interests.
  2. Give practical effect to council's commitment to the 2025 partnership agreement with mana whenua.
  3. Take action to embed and entrench Te Tiriti o Waitangi into council policy, processes and decisions.
