Why I'm standing

Māori are bearing the brunt of the cost-of-living crisis in Kāpiti. We are being priced out of our communities through high rates, higher rents and a lack of job opportunities. The nationwide erosion of Te Tiriti o Waitangi has opened historic wounds for mana whenua, as our urupā and wāhi tapu face desecration by private housing developers. On top of this, we face coastal erosion that will hit lower income whānau and uninsured households the hardest.

About me

I have 10 years of political experience, advocating for and defending our community from both inside and outside of Parliament. I have shaped laws, influenced national policy, and was instrumental in building the Toitū Te Tiriti movement. As mana whenua I will embody the Treaty partnership in local government, embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all council decisions. I will utilise my experience as a negotiator and advocate to the direct benefit of our community.

My priorities
  1. Partner with the ART Confederation to deliver affordable housing solutions for Kāpiti.
  2. Prevent housing and road developments on urupā and wāhi tapu.
  3. Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi into all of the Kāpiti Coast District Council's decisions and processes.
