Kāpiti Coast District Council

Paekākāriki-Raumati General Ward
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. one councillor will be elected from the Paekākāriki-Raumati ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

    Improve public transport frequency and affordability to cut costs long-term and investigate piloting an on-demand bus service.

    Maintain and champion safe cycling and walking routes connecting communities and reducing traffic.

  • Lobby so Gold Card users can use buses and trains at all times. Just last month I saw an elderly lady left standing in the rain at 5pm.

    Work with communities on safer roads and paths for all users. Support requests for lower speeds with engineering advice.

    Make buses better by advocating for on-demand pick-up and drop-off services in Raumati and Paekākāriki similar to Tawa.

  • Build the roundabout at the corner of Raumati and Rosetta Roads to rationalise traffic flow and reduce school-time traffic congestion.

    Improve road safety to ensure cars and bikes can use the road equitably and safely.

    Remove the off-peak blackout that is currently a barrier for seniors travelling on public transport.
