Napier City Council
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). three councillors will be elected from the Ahuriri ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
This campaign is different from the last. I have spoken to residents and we have a major issue now with a cost of living crisis. Napier can still be fabulous with a council on a strict budget. We need to live within our means and spend carefully and wisely. We can still have a library and playgrounds and great community features. We can be creative as well as careful.
About me
I advocate for people. I was a union delegate for hospital pharmacists and have been a spokeswoman for health professional groups. I have spoken up for patients even at my own cost. Council needs strong, courageous and ethical people, especially now when times are challenging. I also have a special interest in the restoration and protection of historic and character buildings.
My priorities
- Support a rates cap and a budget cap will force council to be more efficient and accountable.
- Get back to basics by focusing on infrastructure, roads and drainage, and sensible stuff.
- Reduce bureaucratic process to get things done efficiently.
