Mayor of Napier

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Maintain existing transport assets efficiently and prioritise high-impact projects that deliver accessibility and safety.

    Support HBRC to optimise the regional public bus transport network with routes and scheduling that meet the needs of the community.

  • Ensure roads receive the level of service they need, prioritising roads as part of a back to basics approach.

    Reassess how speed humps and roundabouts are used, review past decisions bravely and make changes if appropriate.

    Review responses to roading reports of potholes or damage to ensure timely repairs and responses.
