New Plymouth District Council

The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the New Plymouth District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe that in turbulent times we need leaders who are willing to make difficult calls, balancing the diverse needs of the community now and into the future. I want to ensure the district continues to thrive through wise investment in infrastructure, meaningful progress on housing, building a resilient future-ready economy and protecting and restoring the environment for future generations. I want to keep fighting for the sustainable, resilient and prosperous future we all deserve.

About me

I am a former lawyer and scientist with a heart for the community and bring a well-researched, thorough and thoughtful approach to council. I understand complex problems and technical detail but also see the big picture. I am a people-person with strong communication skills acting as a bridge between the community and the council. Having been a councillor for six years, I understand the system and how to affect change.

My priorities
  1. Respond to climate change by rapidly reducing emissions and adapting to changing weather patterns.
  2. Work in partnership with tangata whenua to ensure the best outcomes for future generations.
  3. Improve availability and affordability of housing through partnership and making required investments.
