Ruapehu District Council

Ruapehu General Ward
The Ruapehu District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). six councillors will be elected from the Ruapehu ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Improve the council's education strategy on waste minimisation and reduce the cost of council rubbish bags to Gold and Community Service card holders.

    Maintain that environment is not a policy area for Ruapehu District Council.

    Work with the Horizons Regional Council to ensure the district's freshwater meets appropriate standards.

  • Improve water quality for our communities through targeted riparian planting and monitoring.

    Promote low-maintenance native landscaping to improve water quality, reduce erosion and support biodiversity.

    Work towards a waste-free Ruapehu by 2040 through council and community initiatives.
