Tawera Malvern Ward
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. one councillor will be elected from the Tawera Malvern ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue working with ECan and the private sector to find public transport solutions for growing rural areas.

    Ensure roads are adequately maintained and created to ensure good traffic flow as the district continues to grow.

    Work with all stakeholders to ensure road speed limits meet the needs of communities as they grow.

  • Enhance road safety through better design, signage and partnerships with Police and community groups.

    Improve rural roads, bridges, footpaths and street lighting to keep communities connected and safe.

    Investigate greater use of the rail network and public–private partnerships to expand public transport options like the MCVT shuttle.
