Waitākere Ranges Local Board

The Waitākere Ranges Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Demand the right to sign off projects in the region to avoid undesired outcomes.

    Increase and expand public transport services through West Auckland.

  • Address traffic congestion by providing frequent and cheap public transport.

    Implement the Waitakere Ranges greenways plan to improve the safety and desirability of walking and cycling.

    Maximise train frequency out west to make the City Rail Link and the rail system perform effectively.

  • Develop safe and sensible low-cost transport options for all.

    Expand the network of safe walking and cycleways.

    Recognise that the more commuters who get out of cars, the better for all, including those remaining in cars.

  • Build protected bike lanes connecting schools and shops to support active transport. Ensure safe walking and cycling for all ages and abilities.

    Double weekend bus routes, add real-time tracking and reduce fares for students. Provide reliable public transport to reduce car use.

    Fix deadly intersections, add pedestrian crossings and lower speeds near schools. Prevent avoidable tragedies and improve road safety.

    Fight for improved public transport to isolated areas and road–rail separation in Glen Eden.

    Push for better maintenance of roads, drains and footpaths and for smaller buses on windy West Auckland routes.

  • Advocate to establish shuttle buses to and from outer regions, connecting all communities to public transport hubs.

    Push for cheaper public transport, especially for young people.

    Work with communities, including rural and remote, to understand and meet needs around pedestrian safety and connected neighbourhoods.

  • Fight for better maintenance of roads, drains, waterways and power lines to cope with more heavy rain events.

    Push for better public transport out to foothills, bush and coastal communities as well as smaller buses on winding roads.

    Support better access to public transport through more and safer local links, rail and road separation, and free park and ride carparks.

  • Advocate for the Healthy Streets Framework to make streets safer for kids and more pleasant for everyone.

    Bring back half-price fares and connect more neighbourhoods to key transport hubs from bike paths to shuttles for coastal areas.
