Why I'm standing

I believe my experience in central government and accumulated skills in governance and business equip me with the tools to make a valuable and positive contribution to Te Kuiti and its larger Waitomo District. Located in a gully makes the environmental issues for Te Kuiti challenging for infrastructure issues. However, focus needs to be placed on opportunities for positive outcomes and I believe in balancing these responsibilities for a thriving community.

About me

I have mana whenua status which dates back several generations and includes the founders of the township and surrounding areas. Forebearers who donated land for schools, hospital and businesses so I would like to build on that legacy of strengthening the community. I have an established network from a 50-year working career to draw from. Now feels like the timing is right, and the mindset is ready.

My priorities
  1. Identify unique aspects of Te Kuiti and promote it as a model rural town to attract interest.
  2. Establish a creative element for Te Kuiti by utilising an unused council building as an art gallery.
  3. Promote Te Kuiti to new industries as the northern gateway to New Plymouth.
