Wellington City Council
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). three councillors will be elected from the Wharangi/Onslow-Western ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
Seven years ago, I helped establish the Onslow Resident Community Association because council was not listening to our concerns about local issues. I got involved in actively representing residents in submissions to council and in community activities. Then in 2022, I was elected councillor. To really effect change, I need to step up to the mayoralty and support election of a group of likeminded new councillors ("Independent Together" team) to gain a majority around the table.
About me
Born in Wellington, my heart lives here. I genuinely enjoy personal engagement, listening to people and helping them out. I have had a successful international sales career in telecommunications, responsible for multi-million-dollar budgets, managing teams of hard-working people and ensuring delivery of value for money to my customers. I will bring this to council. Wellingtonians will come first with me, not some political party masters. I will work to make Wellington affordable and vibrant again.
My priorities
- Implement zero rate increase for the next three years by cutting wasteful and irresponsible spending.
- Get back to basics by eliminating non-core activities and duplicated services done by others.
- Remove party politics from around the council table to prioritise Wellingtonians first.
