Auckland Council

Waitākere Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe more funding needs to be focused in West Auckland for public transport and facilities like a Northwest pool and Henderson and Glen Eden towns' redevelopment. Our area is growing rapidly and needs a matching response with much needed infrastructure to enable people to get around easily to work and recreation opportunities close to home. Dedicated funding for weed and pest management to protect the Waitākere Ranges and our beautiful West Coast beaches.

About me

My record is common sense decision making, practical solutions and always being available for the community. I've always worked for the West. I've held many roles in the Waitākere City and Auckland Councils as well as leading local community organisations such as Hospice, Family Action, Waitākere Healthlink and Waitākere Licensing Trust. I am a JP and former nurse. I live in West Harbour and remain committed to serving our community. Backing the West.

My priorities
  1. An overhaul of Auckland Transport. Better public relationships and action on maintenence and safety.
  2. Increasing well paid job options for our young people with focus on our Pacific and Māori youth.
  3. Providing open space in high density areas and protecting our natural environment and water quality
