Local democracy

Local government is a foundational part of our democracy. But local democracy isn’t just about holding elections every three years – it’s about the day-to-day ways people have their say in the decisions that affect us all.

  • Deliver engagement that is fit-for-purpose and reflects the impact on the public/communities involved.

Devolve council power and enable co-governance and empowerment in localised resource management projects.

Advocate strongly to central government to ensure legislation, support and funding programmes are appropriate for the region.

  • Listen more and learn.

    Seek efficiencies where possible.

    Build effective and enduring relationships.
