Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Continue to improve efforts in road safety.

    Encourage more useful public transport.

  • Increase accessibility to and use of public transport across the region.

Work with central/local government to ensure safe cycling and walking infrastructure, especially for popular commuter routes.

  • We need a public bus service that is based on the needs of the community, rather than a business-as-usual model that is ineffective.

Cycling infrastructure is a priority for me. Reduce car usage by making bike-friendly spaces.

The roading and pedestrian infrastructure over the district needs work. I support the Bay of Plenty Regional Council working with council to address this.
