Rotorua Constituency
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). Two councillors will be elected from the Rotorua constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Call for transparency on the outcomes of the Operational Plan for Regional Pest Management Plan 2020-2030.

    Reduce environmental harm, provide economic development opportunities and increase employment within the BOP through waste management and minimisation.

    Stop reducing rates through the Quayside Holdings dividend, increase the dividend to 4%, and spend this money on climate change action now.

  • Our region has vast biodiversity so we have to monitor our forests, lakes and land to ensure that our environment is protected from pests.

    Reduce pollution in any way we can, whether that be air quality, farmland or waterways. Ensuring we have solutions to combat pollution.

  • Supported increased investment into volunteer land care, pest management and weed control groups.

    Supported increased investment into compliance and monitoring. Set up new "pollution hot line".

    Continued monitoring of the "Rotorua AirShed". In 15 years Rotorua has reduced from 35 (PM 10) air exceedance to 1 last winter. A real success.

  • Prioritise policies that support and assist communities to achieve the shared goal of improving our environment for future generations.

    Increase resources and support initiatives that ensure eco systems are healthy and contribute to our shared goals of pest free by 2050.

    Develop policies that ensure red tape doesn't deter business from participating while recognising compliance and reporting are essential.

  • Work with Rotorua landowners to fund locals to eradicate pests (possums, wallabies etc).

    Fund volunteer land care, pest management and weed control groups for communities.

    Invest in Rotorua recycling initiatives.
