Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Simplify council permit and registration requirements and make these available online.

Fund Rotorua's rural communities (not on town supply) to have their own water supply and waste and sewerage schemes.

Improve environmental monitoring of rainfall events on flood-prone areas on the Rotorua lakes and the Kaituna river.

  • All jet skis are now required to have 6 digit registration to comply with 2017 navigational and safety bylaws.

Support reforms to improve and enhance infrastructure for improved drinking water standards and waste water disposal standards.

I personally monitor all of our rainfall and significant weather events on all our nine rivers in the Bay of Plenty.

  • Reform of our water infrastructure. We can all agree that doing nothing is not an option.
