Rotorua Constituency
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). Two councillors will be elected from the Rotorua constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Ensuring navigation and safety bylaw review in 2023 is paramount to ensure safety and compliance on all our waterways.

  • Ensure policy supports safe use of all transport methods, whilst being efficient and minimising the environmental impacts.

    Undertake a review of all the current airport operations with a view to maximising resources into a centralised location.

    Advocate for policy that provides support for water safety on the Rotorua Lakes.

  • Future proof public transport by adopting electric everything‚ charging stations, electric bikes, electric/hybrid cars.

    Fund Rotorua's airport expansion and infrastructure and highway corridors.

    Invest in Rotorua's eco-tourism infrastructure, cycling tourism in whaka forest, lakefront development, ziplining the Kaituna river.

  • Encourage public transport by making the fees low or free, provide good routes and timetables and make it accessible.

    Encourage biking and walking by making the cycle lanes and footpaths well maintained.

  • Make large investment in interregional, intercity, public transport services, exploring connecting BOP by rail, bringing down emissions.

    Make the region safe for walking, cycling, wheeling (wheelchairs) and pushing (prams).

    Make permanent, free public transport for school and tertiary students (the trial ends at the end of 2022). Price should not affect use.
