Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Support on going work on upgrading and maintaining drinking water supplies, wastewater and sewage systems.
Keep abreast of legislative reforms, seek opportunities to meet new standards that maintain affordability to our ratepayers.
Review waste management. Encourage reduction, reuse, recycling. Rising levies issues: affordability, illegal dumping, rated vs user-pays?
Monitor and make decisions in long term plan based on evaluation of council services, future needs, community priorities.
Continue to upgrade our ageing water systems to ensure secure water supply and quality for all residents and businesses on the coast.
Institute a real recycling/repurposing sales industry from solid waste, incorporating up-cycling expertise through the Mens (+Womens) Shed.
Ensure that we investigate the impact on our community and consult on the proposed Three Waters reforms before agreeing to either position.
Continue to provide a quality recycling service and look to encourage the greater use of recycling facilities by ratepayers.
