Buller District Council

Westport Ward
The Buller District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Westport ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Work to complete renewal and maintenance of water supplies in for Westport and rural communities and the stormwater networks.

  • Plan for sustainable employment in a post-coal world, encourage sustainable tourism.

    Encourage businesses to develop work options for school leavers to retain youth with purpose.

  • Infrastructure policy/planning that supports a resilient growing local economy. Collaborative, strategic regional economic plan.

    Ensure youth have employment via initiatives, eg Mayors Task Force for Jobs, Buller District Council cadetships, being a partner in education, regional, government programs.

    Advocating for improved and resilient transport networks (sea, land, sky) and local energy supplies.
